what where uk street police call boxes?
police boxes were located in public places for the use of the british police force as well as members of the public who need to contact to police station in an emergency. police officers also used the boxes to take a break from their beat and have a cup of tea and a snack whilst being contactable.
the "tardis" and the dr who bbc television series. the bbc science-fiction series "doctor who" features a time machine, the "tardis" disguised as a mackenzie trench style police box. doctor who was originally transmitted from 1963 to 1989; as police boxes were phased out in the 1970s. over time the image of the blue police box became associated as much with "doctor who" as with the police. the series was revived in 2005 and a police box continues to feature prominently in almost every episode. why were they used? a police box is still being used in the latest 2010 series but of coarse the bbc use lightweight plastic ones which have been renewed and modified over the years.
